Shared Meals uses immersive spaces called Portals to bring diners in two distant locations together around what appears to be one long table stretching through the Internet. Discussion about the food itself has served as an entry-point into deeper conversations on more sensitive subjects, from personal experiences fleeing Syria or Mosul to the realities of life on the U.S.-Mexico border. By sharing a space and breaking bread together, we bring strangers together in a way that inspires empathy and a sense of shared humanity.
